Founding
Anniversary for Klamath Spinners & Weavers Guild
I
transcribed some handwritten notes from a very small notebook found in the
guild papers which establishes the date of our guild’s beginning. The following
entry documents the founding date of Klamath Spinners
& Weavers Guild as July 18, 1968.
“Weavers Guild 1968 Planning meeting held July
18, 1968 at Art Gallery to organize guild.
Those
attending were:

Boyle, Jim Boyle, Rory Boyle, Marlene Lu Boyle, Agnes Oliver, and Rachel
McConnell.
Group decided to meet the 2nd Monday of
each month at 7:30 (PM).
Art Association agreed the Weavers Guild might be a
subsidiary group- pay membership in Art Association and Guild to get % for
operating fund.
The first meeting was September 9th, 1968.
Roll: Agnes Oliver, Ruth Simpson, Dale Custer, Dorothy Anderson, Helen Reeves,

Weaving Guilds of
Oregon (WeGO) and Association of Northwest Weavers (ANWG) news.
Hello Klamath Spinner and Weaver Guild
members. Our guild has an opportunity to apply for an additional $600 ANWG
grant towards presenting a workshop , and Rogue Valley Handweavers Guild (whose
members also have a wide variety of interests) is interested in also
applying for the same amount for a joint
workshop (would be for 2016).
I am trying to determine if our guild has
enough interest and participants to make this feasible. Would you please fill
out this form and return it to me, Kathy Nelson (ANWG rep) either by email or
snail mail by June 15th, or
bring it to the June meeting. (There will also be forms there) I hope to meet with the Medford Guild this
summer to plan.

Dye
like a Spinja! July 14th, 2015
Amber
Beck
Harness the power
of the sun,
and create beautiful dyed roving! Amber will guide you through the
process of dying your own roving. You will learn to mix your dyes, apply for
the desired color affect, and set your dye job in an easy and earth friendly
way. You will be provided with all the materials needed, and go home with your
one of a kind hand dyed roving!
Amber
has been immersed in fiber arts since the age of 9. She learned to spin when
she was 12, but didn’t get serious about the art until her second daughter was born. She began dying yarn in 2003
as part of her wool diaper cover business, and selling handspun yarn in 2005.
Amber is excited to meet fellow fiber artists and share her knowledge of dying.
Aleatha
Isaacs
Let’s
Take a Dip into Gradients! Aleatha will be teaching you
about dyeing gradient yarn using a fun technique to achieve an ombre fade
effect. You will learn how to achieve
the color you are looking for based on blending and dye saturation. Materials will be included in the cost of the
class.
Aleatha picked
up yarn for the first time at 5 years old when she learned to crochet a
chain. She taught herself to spin in
2013. Within a year Aleatha started Cold
Sheep Fiber Arts, and in January of 2015 she purchased Tanglewood Fiber
Creations (a handspun yarn company that specializes in Cashmere and Silks). She is on the editing and development team
for two spinning and dyeing books that are currently in production to be
published by Interweave Press in the next year.
Together
we are Spinja! Amber and Aleatha have known
each other for over 25 years. Together
the dynamic duo developed Spinja Fiber
Arts for joint ventures in the fiber world.
We hope that you enjoy all that we have to offer.
Raw
Fleece to Dye for! If time allows Spinja
will
be teaching how to wash and dye your fiber at the same time! Hubbard Ranch will provide the Raw wool.
Note: We will have disposable latex gloves
available on site but if you have any special needs or preferences please bring
your own. Wear something you don’t mind
getting a little messy in or bring an apron to cover up.
Come
ready for a day full of fun and dye techniques!

We have someone who is excited to continue to do the
newsletter! Elyssa Lewis has many great
ideas to improve it. She will be taking
it over after the June issue. Thank you
Elyssa.
There will be some changes that I would like to tell
you about to make it easier for the newsletter to continue, be less expensive
financially and a shared responsibility to get the newsletter out.
2.
The paid
membership list will become the contact list.
3.
The
newsletter will be posted at The Klamath County Library, Leap of Taste, and Laize
Days Yarn Shop. It is also on the web at
the address at the top of the newsletter.
4.
People who get the newsletter via paper mail
will have a newsletter partner that will print out the newsletter for them
and/or they can work out how to share it.
5.
Any items between newsletters that need to be
sent out will need to be sent out to the contact list by the person who wants
them sent out.
These folks need a newsletter partner: Partnerships will start in September

It
has been suggested that folks who need a newsletter partner reimburse their
partner for their newsletters. It’s up
to the partners to decide what their agreement could be.
If you would like to continue to
keep getting the newsletter, and haven’t paid the annual Guild dues by the end of September, we will assume that you would like to be taken off our
mailing list. The newsletter will be
transitioning to the new person along with the September paid membership list. Thank
you.
Thank
you to all of you for your patience and understanding with me through the years
of doing the newsletter. It did push me to learn a lot, considering the first
few were done with a typewriter. Thank
you for all your contributions and for keeping me posted on what is going
on.
I look
forward to Elyssa’s work and the progression and growth of the newsletter and
guild. I am grateful to Elyssa for her enthusiasm and positive spirit in taking
it on and furthering it. J sharon
