If you have an ad you would like to be put in the newsletter, please send it via email or snail mail by the end of the previous month before the issue you would like it in.  Your ad will be in the newsletter for 2 months.  Thanks.

Klamath Spinners’ and Weavers’ News Guild annual dues are $10/year.  Dues are due in November and can be given or sent to our treasurer, Karen Williams, 1700 Fairmont St., Klamath Falls, Or  97601.  Thanks to everyone who has paid.

The passing of our Dorothy Anderson was on Monday, August 12th, 2013 at the age of 94.  She was a founding member of the Klamath Weavers’ Guild.  She was an accomplished weaver and spinner and enjoyed warping her loom as much as weaving the item.  She demonstrated for young and old and shared her talent and expertise with others; including us. She wove many coverlets, curtains, clothing items, household linens and her special Christmas cards. She will be missed.  But Her smile, chuckle and weavings will be remembered forever.

This Month’s Meeting

This month’s meeting will be Tuesday, September 10th at 10am in the back room of the Klamath County Museum on the corner of Main and Spring Streets in Klamath Falls, OR.  We will be electing new officers and planning our year.  Please be thinking about officers. I think this newsletter could really use some new energy and I would like to see someone else have fun with it. J  Please also think about what programs you would like to see or arrange or do for the year.

One request for a topic for a meeting this year is:  name draft weaving

From the Library

Hi, Yahoo!SMART VIBook Review for September 2013 by Karen Williams, guild librarian
Roth, B.G. and Schulz, C. Handbook of Timesaving Tables for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, 3rd ed., self published, 1991. Book is not in the guild library.
This compact reference provides tables and computations for a wide range of textile-related topics including sett, reed sizes, required total number of ends to weave a given width, designing with Fibonacci numbers, fiber burn tests, standard sizes for household goods and clothing for weavers and knitters, safety precautions for weavers and dyers, dye stock solutions, weight and measure conversions, etc. There is a chart of common plants (and weeds) and the dye colors they can produce, though the chart does not include information on dye fastness, mordants to use or dye solution ratios.
Overall this book might be a useful reference to keep handy by your loom, spinning wheel or dye equipment

We each are spinning our individual threads, lending texture,
color, pattern,
to the “big design” that is serving us all.

If anyone would like to weave on the loom that is for sale at the Klamath County Museum, please feel free to do so. The Museum loves to have weavers come and show how it’s done.  Please come and weave any afternoon between 1pm and 4pm.  The Museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Please call Carol Wylie for more info:  541-882-4031. By this Christmas, the loom will need a home.  It would be great to sell it, or if there isn’t a buyer, the loom will need a place to be stored.

A person is needed to go to the Weaving Guilds of Oregon meeting in October.  If you are interested, please contact Carol Wylie for the date and place. 541-882-4031.
